Andy Murray Tennis US Open 2009

Andy Murray of Britain has been lethargic at the start of the US Open tournament but the crafty Brit seem to be doing great and stormed into the fourth round at flushing meadows. Mind you, he was the finalist last year at the same venue.

The 22-year-old Britain defeated America’s Taylor Dent in straight sets with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2. Dent had returned to the tournament after a back surgery, and he was simply outclassed by fast Andy Murray.

Andy Murray won the match in duration of just 1 ½ hours, and his excellent returns were and rhythmic that made the American to succumb.

Murray will face Croatia’s Marin Cilic in the fourth round of the tournament. Cilic has defeated Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3.

Interesting face to face stats come here: Murray and Cilic have faced each three times on the tennis court and all the times Murray has emerged victorious, which will keep his confidence levels high and seems to be a strong contender to make it to the quarter finals. Although Murray needs to watch out for Cilic’s serves that can take him by surprise, he will still be the pre-match favourite and I reckon he will be one among the last 4 of the tournament.
