Ashes Cricket 2009 Series England vs Australia Results -- England

england ashes 2009 cricket winner

England wins The Ashes 2009. Stuart Broad’s 5-37 in England’s first innings at the Oval to set up a famous victory of the Baggy Greens. Then it was Trott’s treat of century to the English fans at Oval, English put up brave total in their second innings.

England started the 4th day, and it is clear they needed 10 Australian wickets with 2 days remaining to claim the cricket’s greatest prize; in Ashes and Australia required 466 to win in 2 days and they had to bat a minimum of 180 overs. But their victory looked an impossible as the pitch turned to become hostile for the visitors. But in the first hour they got the early breakthrough claiming wickets of Katich and Watson. Hussey and Ponting stuck to some plan and played the English bowlers. Collingwood even dropped Ponting at 185 but at 213 Freddie gets Ponting by running him out through a fantastic catch.

The English delight continued with Clarke getting run out soon after a misjudgement and some sharp reflex from Strauss. Then on, it became matter of time for the English and thanks to their wicket keeper Prior who had been outstanding. There is something to cheer in the Australian dressing room as Hussey went on to make his century (maybe only to save his test career). The last 3 Australian wickets looked like were written for Steve Harmison, Hussey has been the unbeaten one in the baggy green side. England wins Ashes and with a day to spare and what a moment it is for the English cricket?

Jonathan Trott deserves special mention; his century in the second innings was so vital almost inched the English to victory but the npower man of the match was Stuart Broad for his stupendous bowling efforts.
