England v Australia 7th ODI Preview September 20, 2009 Preview
After the 6th ODI victory it looks like whitewash is there on cards, sadly for the England captain Andrew Strauss he will not have asked for a defeat like these especially the 5th and 6th even after they have bucked up and played a decent game of cricket. Their mighty scores looked small for Aussies who came with a revengish frame of mind and attitude. Ricky Ponting’s addition to the team has only rubbed salt to the wounds of English team and with these feelings of insult and humiliation the team will play 7th ODI on Sunday the September 20, 2009.
In fact, Strauss was the lone batsmen putting a brave stand facing the Australian bowlers for the first five ODIs and then he started slipping down. In the bowling department it’d been lone show from Stuart Broad. What had been so pathetic is that they couldn’t defend a total of even 300 with lethargic fielding and indecent bowling to blame. I didn’t see any passion in the English team if I should blame one thing about them. They surely must be missing their backbone and big boys Flintoff and Pieterson; while the former is a charger of the team.
What they need to do is to huddle and play as unit if they are to stand at least an average chance of winning the last and the seventh ODI, and I doubt if it saves any grace to the England team. But at least they can go to the Champions Trophy with some readiness and spirit. The experienced Bopara, Shah and Prior should play to motivate the youngsters in the team to drive the ghost of a 7-0 whitewash that’s haunting around the England’s dressing room and play with confidence. They should remember they fought well with a team like Australia to take the coveted urn from them.
