BMW to quit Formula One at end of 2009 Season

After the Japanese car maker Honda pulled out of the Formula One racing campaign, now the German manufacturer BMW is contemplating to call it the quits. And news reports from the company have confirmed that BMW is finally pulling out of the Formula 1 by the end of season.
BMW has changed priorities and said that it will focus mainly on environmental compatibility and sustainability. It is understood that the company is striving to realign its technology towards reducing carbon emissions and the company spokesperson has emphasized that pulling out of the Formula 1 racing has nothing to do with the current economic situation or the current performance of the team as is believed or rumored around in the F1 circles.
However, company officials have stated that they would definitely put up a fighting spirit for the remaining races as they bid goodbye to Formula 1 racing, but they have also emphasized that BMW will be actively involved in other motor sports.
In this season, BMW drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld have only eight points between them and it is assumed that it drove the final nail in the coffin for quitting from Formula 1.
BMW was quick to comment that the long association with Formula 1 racing has helped their engineers in technological innovation and have equipped them with the right competitive edge for developing new cars.
