One of the giants of the EPL, Chelsea FC came second in the 2007/08 campaign, after their former star manager, Mourinho, had left the club who was replaced by Avram Grant who directed the Blues to the final of the Champions League and Carling Cup.

Grant departed Chelsea at the end of that season and was replaced by Luiz Felipe Scolari. However, failing in bringing the title back to Stamford Bridge, he was sacked in February 2009. His replacement, Guus Hiddink became hugely popular with fans and players and he led them to success in the FA Cup final, beating Everton 2-1.

Hiddink, however, decided to stay with the Russian National Team & was replaced by former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti who won an amazing first season in English football, with Chelsea winning the Barclays Premier League title in some panache. They hit 103 goals to set a new Premier League goalscoring record with Didier Drogba notching 29 to claim the Barclays Golden Boot.

On the other hand, West Bromwich Albion were relegated from the Barclays Premier League after just one season but returned two years later and stayed put to the final day of the 2004/05 season. Unfortunately, it was only a short-lived reprieve as they were relegated one year later only to bounce back at the first attempt as champions. They again lasted just one season but the “Boing Boing” Baggies again bounced straight back and now hope to get a firm foothold in the Barclays Premier League.
