DFB Pokal 2009/10 Fixtures/Results

DFB-Pokal 2009–10 Schedule

The annual German football competitions with 64 teams have kick started in flying colors.

We have seen 32 games of the first main round which were played between July 31, 2009 and August 03, 2009 and then the second round will be played between August 22nd and September 23, 2009. The third round is scheduled to be played with last 16 teams between October 27 and 28, 2009.

Then there will be much anticipated finals played in Berlin at the Olympics Stadium during May 2010. The winners of DFB Pokal will ultimately qualify for the play-off round of the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League championship matches.

What makes the DFB Pokal so much loveable and worth watching are that these matches are all knockouts with no draws. There will also be no rematches and no second legs.

But how are the draws conducted in this tournament? For the first round, all the participating teams were divided into two pots. The first pot team is set as the home team and it consists of best 4 teams of 3rd Liga and bottom four teams of Second Bundesliga. In the second pot we have the remaining participating teams. Each team from the first pot will play against the second pot team. For the first round the draw took place on 27th June 2009. Now, we need to wait and see if in the remaining rounds whether the draw will be done in the same fashion or not.
