As Eurobasket started to roll the French seem to have a good ground for them and becoming indeed favorites. France is the unbeaten team in the tournament and in all likelihood it is becoming apparent that France is the most talented team in the entire tournament. It is on the top of the Group E table after defeating Greece, indeed French’s first win against this team after 26 years and will take on Spain in the quarter finals at the Spodek Katowice.
Not so similar fashion though, Spain still raced to the quarter finals securing their position amongst the top 8 teams after ending the host country’s dream run. Spain’s Pau Gasol and Navarro actually thwarted Poland’s defense and Spain succeeded in crashing Poland 90-68. Spain being led by Pau Gasol is definitely hungrier to face the French team. On the other hand France is unbeaten in Eurobasket 2009, but they have not displayed the best of their playing tactics. I still reckon them as mediocre team.
Group B was not that aggressive in terms of teams and they beat Russia and Germany only by 5 points each. The half-court offense is what the team needs to work on but their defense and rebounding shots had been their strong points.
