Germany Goalkeeper Robert Enke Commits Suicide at 32

Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke dies. The news is confirmed and Enke dies in a suicide attempt when a train hit him. The goalkeeper was badly injured after he was hit by train at level crossing in Hannover.

The top goalkeeper as is remembered by opponents and friends is only 32 years of age and German team is still in a state of shock after being informed of the death of Enke. Oliver Bierhoff the manager of the German team was quoted of saying, “we are in a state of shock. It is beyond words.”

It was in 2006 that the goalkeeper Enke lost his daughter to a very rare medical condition of her heart. She died at age 2. Enke is now survived by his wife Teresa and an 8-months-old daughter that the couple adopted last May.

Police indications initially point to a suicide attempt. The goalkeeper was hit by a train that traveled between Norddeich and Hannover at one level crossing near Neustadt am Rubenberge. He was found dead at the place.

Enke played for about 8 times for Germany. He also played for many clubs including Carl Zeiss Jena, Benfica, Barcelona, Borussia Mönchengladbach Tenerife and Fenerbahce. He however, returned in 2004 to Bundesliga with Hannover. Many soccer fans went to Hannover’s Niedersachsen Stadion to pay last tributes to their hero. His clubs and colleagues were still distressed and mourning the death of their captain.
