The first ODI of the Micromax Cup tri-series will see the Indians take on New Zealand. India is the defending champions of the tri-series that was played between India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand last year, and will look to defend their title in this tournament. New Zealand, on the other hand, will look to get to the finals as their first objective, but with a rather inexperienced side, they may find it difficult to do so.
Ross Taylor will lead the Kiwi side, after Daniel Vettori decided to take a break from cricket for this series. The other couple of missing players from the Kiwi side are Brendon McCullum (paternity leave) and Jesse Ryder (injury), which makes the side rather weak in their batting department. Captain Taylor will need to assume full responsibility of their batting, with the likes of Scot Styris and Martin Guptill expected to make the innings count as well.
Nathan McCullum will assume the role of the lead spinner in Vettori’s absence, whereas the likes of Darryl Tuffey and Kyle Mills will bowl pace for the side.
From an Indian perspective, there are a few players rested as well, but the replacements are equally strong. Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh will miss the tri-series because of fitness-related reasons and that will mean that the likes of Pragyan Ojha, R Ashwin and Rohit Sharma have a good chance of making it to the playing eleven of the side.
India should open with Virender Sehwag and Dinesh Karthik, whereas Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh – apart from captain MS Dhoni – should form the strong-looking Indian middle-order.
The bowling for India will be in the hands of Ojha and Ravindra Jadeja, apart from the three seam bowlers, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar and Ashish Nehra.
India should go in a favourites to win this one, but a lot will depend on the toss as well; batting second at Dambulla can hardly be an exciting proposition.

Indians Get a dissapointed start to series.
Indian cricket team is ready for the cricket world cup 2011 where they can win it easily as they are playing at home most of the time. Their slow bowlers and best in term of experience of bowling on sub-continental wickets.
Moreover, their batting line is too is better then most of cricket team participating in cricket world cup 2011. All of them are capable of winning the match on their own.
Cheers for Team India!!
