The third and the final Test match between India and Sri Lanka will be played at the P Sara Stadium in Colombo from Tuesday, 3 August, 2010. Sri Lanka leads the series 1-0 and will look to defend that lead, whereas India will need to prevent a loss to retain the number one position in the rankings.

India and Sri Lanka were involved in a rather dull, and high-scoring draw at the SSC in Colombo, a game that saw less than 20 wicket fall in the entire duration of the five days. Both sides will hope that the track is a tad more result-oriented than the one at SSC, but more importantly, the cricket fans around the world will be looking for a sporting track.

The Indian bowling has continued to struggle throughout the series, and the time may be right to get in some variety. There is a good chance that the Indians may go into the match with a changed bowling line-up – Amit Mishra and Munaf Patel could get a chance. What will be more interesting is whether Suresh Raina will be allowed another chance to bat or if Yuvraj Singh will make a comeback if he is fit. Raina had slammed a ton in the SSC game.

For Sri Lanka, one felt that the spinners in Suraj Randiv and Ajantha Mendis did a good job for the side, but the selectors seemed to have made a mistake by replacing Chanaka Welegedara with Dammika Prasad. Not only did Prasad not pick up a single wicket in the entire game, he also looked very listless and could not bowl long enough spells.

The batting for the Lankans should remain the same, as pair of Tharanga Paranavitana and Kumar Sangakkara will look to slam their third respective centuries of the series.

All in all, if the track is sporting for the bowlers, Sri Lanka will start as favourites, but a lot will depend on who wins the toss.
