India plays Sri Lanka in the second Test match of the three-Test match series at Colombo from the 26th of July. Sri Lanka leads the series 1-0 after they easily overcame India in the first Test match at Galle by a margin of ten wickets. Muthiah Muralitharan ended his Test career in that game by picking up his 800^th Test match wicket.

However, all of that is now history. What the Indians need is a much better performance than the one that was dished out in the Galle game. Their bowling was always going to be a concern, but what would bother the Indian think-tank is that the batting was as appalling as it could get. On a track where the Sri Lankan tail-enders managed to get half-centuries at will, most of the Indian batsmen struggled to get a move on.

The Indian side looked abysmally low on fuel when it came to the bowling. Unfortunately for them, there is not much that can be done by way of replacements. However, the one option that the side does have is to go in with a fifth bowler and drop someone like Yuvraj Singh from the side. That is an option that the Indians may be apprehensive of taking for this Colombo game and that will mean that the same playing eleven will feature in the second Test.

Sri Lanka may have lost Muralitharan from the series, but it does not provide the Indians any respite. Because the Lankans will now get in Ajantha Mendis for the second Test match to replace Murali and cause problems for the Indian batting which had struggled against Mendis in the tour game.

The rest of the Sri Lankan line-up should remain the same, except if Thilan Samaraweera fails to recover from his finger injury. He had sit out through most of the first Test match after the third day because of the injury and if it does not heal substantially, his place will be taken by Thilina Kandamby in the middle-order.

One gets the sense that the Lankans will be favourites here, unless the Indians can win the toss, bat first and get to a huge total.
