2nd ODI: India v Sri Lanka at Nagpur
Dec 18 (14:30 local, 09:00 GMT)
Watch India vs Sri lanka 1st ODI live scores, highlights online here. It looked like a run carnival and not a 50 over match that we saw in Rajkot where India and Sri Lanka played the 1st ODI. Both the teams scored over 800 runs and viewers could not have asked for more from the teams.
Sri Lanka won the toss and sent India to bat first. Openers Sachin and Sehwag started it slow and Sehwag slowly shifted the gear. He started hitting the ball to all sides of the ground after the first 10 overs. After Sehwag reached 50 Sachin picked up the momentum and scored his 92nd 50 in ODIs. It’s no small achievement if not Sachin. He was bowled by Dilhara, but that couldn’t stop Sehwag. He in the company of MS Dhoni increased the pace of the game and soon made his century. He was out at 146. At this point it looked that India might score around 450 runs.
Gambhir, Raina and Harbhajan went to pavilion just after reaching 2 figure scores. But tailenders Virat Kohli and Jadeja made some quick fire runs to give India a heavy total of 414/7.
Accepting the challenge Sri Lanka walked in gracefully with its dashing openers Upul Taranga and Tilakaratne Dilshan. Dilshan was merciless and played like he had no respect to bowlers. At the end of 15 overs, it looked like 414 is easily gettable. Raina got the wicket of Taranga and team India had not much joy left as Sangakkara looked ruthless. He supported Dilshan’s
attacking stroke play and did not compromise on his natural game. They both looked in such form that they were going to reach even 500 runs. After Sangakkara left there seemed some quick wickets for Indians. Still Dilshan continued playing his shots. The match looked much in favor of Lankans if not Angelo Matthews’ catch by Tendulkar, and then the run out of Samaraweera. The match continued its suspense though through the last ball and it had been a thorough entertainment for viewers.
With both teams in stupendous form, the series holds a lot of excitement for fans and as teams go to Nagpur (instead of Vishakhapatnam) to play the second match I the series. Nagpur ground is small and fans can only hope for another batting feast.
The sad news from Sri Lankan dressing room is that their spin magician Murali is ruled out off the series and so comes a shocker with Dilhara Fernando being ruled out after sustaining finger injuries.
Mahela Jayawardene’s form also is a concern, but the captain believes he can come off it. Sangakkara appreciated the way his team responded to India’s challenge of 414 in the 1st ODI, and he believes that should the spirit continue they can make the series very interesting.
India, on the other hand, will like to carry forward the winning momentum and take the lead. This looks like supported by Yuvraj Singh coming back to the team. The captain believes they still need to improve on fielding. In all, the Orange city will have some surprises for us!
