Vizag to host two IPL games
Established in 2003, the VDCA Stadium will be the new home of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where champions Deccan Chargers are expected to play some of their matches in this picturesque stadium.
Prices of Tickets: IPL chairman Lalit Modi has declared that Visakhapatnam will host two Twenty20 matches of the Deccan Chargers and has promised that tickets would be priced moderately anything in the range of Rs.250-Rs.2500 to attract more crowd.
Stadium Layout: Till date the VDCA has hosted just two ODI matches but has been a regular venue for first-class matches and the home of Andhra cricket. The scenic stadium has a seating capacity of 25,000 but since it is going to host some of the matches of the IPL 2010 the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is planning to increase the capacity to 36,000 by adding few tiers to the existing stands.
But if the ACA goes ahead with its plans then it would destroy the beauty of the stadium as the introduction of the tiers mean that it would block the adjacent hillock and the beautiful sky that makes the stadium beautiful.
The stadium is located in the outskirts of the city at Madhurwada overlooking the Bay of Bengal and that makes it a beautiful to play cricket.
The stadium also got a facelift with the installation of floodlights, which were switched on for the first time during the recently held BCCI Corporate Trophy. Nearly Rs.5 crores were spent for the floodlights as this year and stadium was ready to host IPL matches. But since the Twenty20 extravaganza was shifted out of the country, the cricket fans of Vizag had to wait for some more time to see the top cricket stars in action.
The stadium has all the facilities to host international matches and with the installation of floodlights it can now look forward to get Test status.
There are 10 entry gates in the stadium and parking facilities are available in the vicinity of each gate.
