Welcome to the Eden Gardens stadium, the Mecca of world cricket, and the home of Shahrukh Khan Starrer Kolkata Knight Riders. The stadium lies behind the Akashwani Bhawan.

Route to Stadium: Located in the heart of the City of Joy, the Eden Garden overlooks the sacred Hoogly River on one side and the Maidan on the other side.

The stadium, which was born in 1864, is just five years short of its 150th birthday and is undergoing renovation for the 2011 World Cup. History is carved in each and every corner of the stadium that’s has seen the high and lows in international cricket.

It hosted the 1987 World Cup final and then witnessed V.V.S. Laxman and Rahul Dravid marauding the Australian after being forced to follow on. But the stadium, which can host more than 100,000 people, has seen its share of crowd trouble as well – 1996 semi-final against Sri Lanka and Test against Pakistan in 1999.

However, the stadium is still a favorite among the domestic and overseas cricketers and everybody wants to give their best in front of 100,000 people. But due to the Rs.80 crore renovation works, the seating capacity of the stadium will be cut to half of its capacity during the third edition of the Indian Premier League – IPL 2010.

The concrete seating slabs would be replaced by bucket seats and spectator comfort getting the top priority. With bucket seats, the seating capacity of the stadium will be reduced by 10,000, but still the Eden will be the biggest cricket stadium in the country.

But a second tier in the J Block will be built before the World Cup to make up for the loss in the number of seats. The add-ons would be two giant screens, brand new floodlights, renovated dressing rooms, a museum, a multi gym and a dormitory for the players.

IPL 3 Ticket Prices: The Eden has nearly 10 entry gates and the Maidan is used for parking during international matches and the IPL. This time IPL 3 tickets would be sold online and would be available for anything between Rs.250 – Rs.2500.
