IPL 2010 Matches at MA Chidambaram Stadium – Chennai

Every wall and each blade of grass at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, commonly known as the Chepauk, has witnessed history since 1934 when the first Test was played at this venue between England and India.

Since then the Chepauk has become one of the spiritual home of cricket in the country and now it is the home of Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings.

With the third season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), few months ahead, the stadium will be bustling with activities during the 45-day tournament.

The Chepauk has seen many records being set here. Be it Saeed Anwar’s 194, highest ODI score, against India in the Independence Cup in 1997 or Virender Sehwag’s second triple century 319 in Tests against South Africa last year, the Chepauk has been special to Indian cricket.

Home to the Madras Cricket Club (MCC), the Chepauk also provides facilities for tennis, table tennis, squash and badminton.

The MCC has been instrumental in preserving the grandeur of the Chepauk since its Presidency days. For old timers, watching cricket at the Chepauk in its pre-stadium days was a nostalgic experience. The breeze from the Bay of Bengal would rush in assisting the bowlers a bit of swing and till date it has done so.

In fact due to its grand location, the Chepauk has become an important landmark of the city. Overlooking the world famous Marina beach, the Chepauk is undoubtedly one of the most exciting cricket stadiums in the world.

The stadium has a seating capacity of nearly 46,000 and the pavilion and the terrace stands are well laid out and provide all the amenities to the spectators. The stadium will also undergo some renovation work during the IPL for the 2011 World Cup.

There are more than 10 entry gates at the Chepauk and car parking facilities are arranged near every gates during the international matches and the IPL. With the IPL coming back to India, spectators can look for tickets any where in the price range of Rs.250 – Rs.2500 for the Twenty20 matches.
