The winner of the IPL 2009, Deccan Chargers is one of the most powerful teams based in Hyderabad owned by Deccan Chronicle. In the IPL first season, V.V.S. Laxman rejected the proposal to be an icon player so it opened the doors for some of the younger players. He became the captain for six matches before picking up an injury. However, due to some lackluster performances, the captaincy passed over to the current captain Adam Gilchrist.
The other key players of Deccan Chargers are Andrew Symonds, Scott Styris and Herschelle Gibbs, Rohit Sharma, R. P. Singh, Fidel Edwards, Ryan Harris, Tirumalasetti Suman, Pragyan Ojha.
All had high expectations from the Chargers in IPL 08. But they disappointed the fans with their miserable performance through the whole IPL 2008 season. They won only two matches and found the last position in the league table. The Chargers were heavily let down with poor performances in both the fielding and the bowling departments.
With the debacle the inaugural season, Deccan showed a brilliant comeback in 2009 by winning the second IPL tournament after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs in the final. At the beginning of the season, the team management sacked the previous administration and appointed Adam Gilchrist as the new captain. And he served the team very well with his experience and showed great character with his bat and the leadership.
