The dominance of Roger Federer in US Open comes to an end when young Argentina player Juan Martin Del Petro lifted the US Open 2009 trophy and created history by winning his grand slam career title. Since 2003, it was Roger Federer who had been undefeated here at the Flushing Meadows and took home trophy for 5 times, but this year it had been different win of Del Petro prevented Federer to win the title six times in a row.
Del Petro, the 20 year old Argentine, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium beaten the world number one with 3-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory in the match that lasted more than four hours. Both the players, Del Petro and Federer played exceedingly well to beat Novak and Nadal respectively in their semi final matches. However, in the finals, Federer’s serves seemed to be the major cause of his defeat. There were too many double faults for Federer while the young Argentinean played some wonderful forehand shots to dominate the match.
This final was the first for Federer where the match headed into the fifth set. However, the nerve playing game finally saw Del Petro lifting the US Open Mens trophy 2009.
