Old Trafford hosts one of the most exciting matches in the 2010/11 Barclays premiership campaign.
Manchester United has a complex premiership history, their great rivals, Chelsea, smashed their winning streak with wins in 2005 and 2006. But in the 2006/07 season, the Red Devils soared back to win the Barclays Premiership.
They matched that in 2007/08, achieving their greatest dominance since winning the treble. They defeated both Chelsea and Arsenal to win an exciting Barclays Premier League title race and trashed the Blues on penalties in the Champions League final after a 1-1 draw between the two squads.
In 2008/09, Man U made it a hat-trick of cups, also winning the Carling Cup but losing to Barcelona in the Champions League final.
Manchester United retained the Carling Cup in 2010 but lost with a point behind Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League after a dramatic race.
Newcastle United have an equally amazing history in the Premiership. They signed Alan Shearer for a world record £15m. Management problems has seen the club not achieving earlier success. Sam Allardyce took over for the 2007/08 campaign but was controversially replaced by Kevin Keegan later. Equally dramatically, Keegan left in September 2008 and was replaced by Joe Kinnear who lead to the end of the campaign. However their momentum was further broken as Kinnear was rushed to hospital in February 2009 and needed heart surgery. Magpies legend Alan Shearer took over as manager for the final eight matches of the season but failed to save them falling into the Championship as they were beaten 1-0 at Aston Villa in the last match.
But never say die for the Magpies as they bounced straight back to the Barclays Premier League at the first attempt. Hughton was handed the job on a permanent basis in October 2009 and repaid the club by leading them to the Championship title -- and in some style. they racked up 102 points and 90 goals to finish 11 points clear of runners-up West Bromwich Albion.
