Nikolay Davydenko wins the ATP World Tour Finals. The Russian won the title beating stronger opponent and Argentine Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets at the London O2 Arena.

The win gives the Russian a jump in his rankings to 6 and del Potro though will retain his number 5 ranking. Davydenko realized his finals dream now. Last year he lost, but this time he wins it against favorited del Potro with a 6-3 and 6-4. The match got over in about 90 minutes times and the tournament gave us winner among the top 8. The win also gives the Russian a whopping $1,510,000 as prize money and del Potro collects $740,000. Nikholay Davydenko also becomes first ever Russian to win the tournament.

He came into the tournament as number 7 and left his mark end of it. To be in the number 6 and to claim the title, he went on upsetting Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and even Del Potro.

However, both the tour finalists stood second in their respective groups. Both Davydenko and del Potro met 3 times before and this will be the Russian’s best performance against the Argentine. The pair had only met three times before, and Russian having 2-1 lead. He now makes it as 3-1 lead against Juan Martin del Potro. Davydenko dominated the match from the beginning with strong baseline rallies; his drop shots were corneal delight and he deserved to win the match.
