Pakistan begin their second leg of the tour of UK with their first Test match against England at Nottingham. The Pakistanis will go into the four-game series with much confidence after they had overcome the Aussies in the second Test match at Headingley – after 13 unsuccessful attempts at doing so!

The Pakistani side can expect a tougher challenge from the English side than they did from the Aussies. The reason for the same is the better batting-bowling balance that the English side possesses. For one, the English batting line-up will be bolstered by the return of Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood, both of whom have had their issues with injuries.

Then again, Ian Bell may be out of the side, but Jonathon Trott and Eoin Morgan are both in good form and one of them should take up Bell’s place.

From the bowling perspective, the English team has a strong set of bowlers, propped up by the return of Graeme Swann, who had been rested earlier. His wicket-taking ability in any format of the game, makes him a threat, even for a team like Pakistani, which handle the spin bowling rather well.

Pakistan’s bowling will be a stronger suit, but they will be encouraged by the manner in which at least one of the younger batsman in coming to the fore. Apart from Salman Butt and Imran Farhat, it was the batting of Azhar Ali, that would have impressed the Pakistani fans. Umar Amin has yet to get a move on, and it will be interesting to see if he keeps getting selected.

The bowling shaped up rather well at Headingley where the conditions were just right for the team. Nottingham could just be a different cup of tea altogether as the ball may not swing around too much. How the Pakistani pace bowlers adjust will be interesting to watch. Danish Kaneria has proved to be ineffective so far, and there is a good chance that Saeed Ajmal may get his chances.
