Ricky Ponting retires from Twenty20 internationals

Australian captain Ricky Ponting announced his retirement from the short format of cricket the T20.
He announced this as he was leaving to England to play the ODI matches and also head to Champions Trophy which will be held in South Africa.
Ponting had been successful captain for the Australian side and he had been T20 captain too. In the recent times, Ponting was under fire, especially after losing the Ashes debacle to England. Australian media was divided in this regard and people criticized the captain for Ashes loss.
Cricket Australia had still reposed faith in the losing captain. Ponting was at home on a short holiday and Michael Clarke, Ponting’s deputy has been there captaining the Australian side for the last two T20 internationals and so Ponting names him as his next successor to lead the Aussies in T20 format of cricket.
Ponting said, “the last 10 or 12 days for me have been a lot about reflection, looking back to the Ashes and looking forward to my playing future.”
“As of today I’ve decided to retire from international Twenty20 cricket. The decision I’ve made is all to do with my longevity in the game.”
