Roger Federer is a name unmatched to any of the players in the history as well as in the near future. The year 2009 proved to be the most memorable year for Federer both professionally as well as personally. Federer achieved the French Open title for the first time; additionally he broke the record of Pete Sampras by achieving 15 Grand Slam wins; as a result of these consecutive achievements, he became the number 1 player in Tennis ranking.
With the end of Association of Tennis Players (ATP) world tour finals, he was thrashed to face defeat in the semi finals by Nikolay Davydenko, this happens to be the first time when he is defeated by a Russian Player in his last 12 matches. However, 2009 ended with a happy note to him as he has been nominated for the Credit Suisse Sports Awards and for the USSA athlete of the year. Fedex has also been named as 2009’s world champion by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) after topping the year-end rankings.
With 2010 in its wrappings Roger has a tight packed schedule to play tennis with various titles to own and mark a name in the tournaments. 2010 unfolds various important tournaments for Roger such as Qatar Exxonmobil Open in first week of January, followed by Australian Open, Estoril Open, Wimbledon etc. 2010 will be the first year in which he is going to play Estoril Open since last played in 2008. With these important tournaments in pipeline, Federer is expected to win many more Grand Slams in the further year.
