Roger will play Novac Djokovic in the US Open semifinals on Saturday the September 12, 2009. This happens to be the third clash at the Flushing Meadow that the duo will be facing after the US Open 2007 finals and 2008 semifinals.

For Federer though it’s the record 22nd time that he reached semifinals of a Grand Slam event; well he had to fight hard to ease the threat off Soderling in the quarter finals. He won 6-0, 6-3, 6-7 (6/8) and 7-6(8/6).

The 4th seeded Djokovic won against Spain’s Fernando Verdasco 7-6(7/2), 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 to reach the last four for the third consecutive time at the Flushing Meadows.

Federer is bidding to win record-equalling 6th straight US Open title and spoke against his opponent Djokovic: “He has done well to come through and put himself in this position.”

One cannot say that Djokovic has been having great time at the Flushing Meadows. He was almost out and down when he played against Jesse Witten but then put the scare away that the American was overwhelming him. He needs to come with a strategy to play someone like Federer to storm to finals!
