Russia vs Serbia Eurobasket 2009

Russia actually cruised to their ninth consecutive quarter finals beyond the wildest expectations of the domestic media, experts and even its fans.

The team lacked experienced players and people wrote them off early. Its true Russians hardly had any tall players to basket the ball. But, thanks to the mentor and Coach David Blatt who had to play real hard on the court to prove that the negativity surrounding the team is nothing but vain. The team simply surprised all and is now into a stage where they need to do or die. They stand second in the Group E and will be all their armors to take on the youthful Serbs on September 17, 2009. Poland is all eyes for the Eurobasket 2009.

The excitement will just be too much as Russia face Serbia in the quarter finals at Spodek Katowice. Serbia is the youngest team with the average age of the players being youngest in the Eurobasket tournament. They are charged and are high on spirits having beaten Lithuania who were no less but put up a brave show and did exhibit good control on the game.

Serbia recovered from their poor show against the Turks and made 7 of the 3 point shots in the last 7 possessions. A special mention here about their guard Teodosic who had been athletic and swift. It would be a corneal delight to watch the young unpredictable Serbs take on the reviving Russians.
