Serena Williams US Open 2009 Tennis

Serena Williams, winner of the 2009 Wimbledon title has kept up the solid performance and she proved her mettle yet again. Serena has reached the quarterfinals in the 2009 US Open after defeating Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. America’s Serena Williams has entered 11 quarterfinals from the 12 major tournaments she has played and has won three titles out of four.

The Flushing Meadows this year has been very lucky for Serena, as she has won all the 8 sets she has played here so far. The 29-year-old American has entered into the tournament with the aspiration of defending her title. In fact, the Flushing Meadows are happy hunting ground for Serena. She has won here the singles title for 3 times.

But Serena Williams might still not be whole-heatedly happy of her entry in to the quarterfinals, as Russia’s Dinara Safina is still ruling the number one position, and the best part is, she has not won a single grand slam title and she is out of the US Open too. Tennis fans all over the globe will be frowning at this irony of points and ranking of tennis players and Serena has a greater chance of winning her third grand slam title this year. Alas! Serena is World No. 2.
